Business Fraud

Deceptive trade practice, or unfair trade practice, occurs when an intentional act, misrepresentation, or exclusion of information is made during business dealings, which would likely mislead another, in order to gain personal advantage.

Examples of this are false advertising, odometer tampering, fake endorsements, “bait and switch” tactics, and false guarantees.

Investment Fraud

Stock brokers have rules and duties to which they are bound. Failure to abide by these rules could be an indicator of misconduct. It is important to understand that a significant drop in an investment, even a poor investment, is not the sole indicator of misconduct.

Investment fraud and broker fraud cases frequently involve issues such as breach of fiduciary duty, negligence on the part of the broker, unauthorized trading or trading without a license,  and churning – making frequent trades to generate commission.

Securities Fraud

What is a security? Generally, a security is an intangible investment which represents some type of financial value or ownership interest, such as mutual funds, stocks and bonds, etc. Something tangible, like a house, land, or car is not considered a security.

Fraud occurs when a seller uses false or misleading information, or omits pertinent information, to convince someone to purchase a security based on that information.
